Science formed as a 5- piece at the end of 2002, although the core nucleus came about when singer/ guitarist Rebecca Jade and guitarist Dewi Rhys moved from their sleepy hometown of Penmaenmawr in North Wales to the big smoke of London in 1998. Keyboard player Matt Jones, drummer Tookie, and bassist Stu Maxwell now join them. Taking in a myriad of different sounds, Science verge to and from every sonic extreme. With dual guitars, complex harmonies, stratospheric keyboards and a pounding rhythm section, they have been mentioned in the same breath as artists as diverse as Patti Smith, Television, Van Der Graaf Generator, PJ Harvey, Galaxie 500 and Belly, although in truth they sound like all of these and none of them at the same time.

Science have played gigs with Simple Kid, Hope Of The States, Ingo Star Cruiser, Tom Baxter, and Medium 21, and have received airplay on XFM, GTFM, Radio One’s Session In Wales and BBC Radio Wales.

2004 saw Science release their first single, You Passed Thru, through the Shifty Disco MP3 Club. Hailed as “fantastic” by XFM’s Claire Sturgess, and as “spine- tingling excellence” by ireallylovemusic.co.uk. Reviewed in Sound Nation, the magazine commented, “the song grows wings and soars… ably propelled by Rebecca Jade’s angelic yet jarring vocal delivery”.

Science’s live staple, Oh I Hide It Well (“marvellous”- BBC Radio Wales) is also featured on the compilation “The North South Divine” which was released last year on FF Vinyl. The record was an album of the month for Radio One DJ’s, John Peel, Huw Stephens, and Bethan Elfyn. BBC Wales commented, “no Welsh music fan worth it’s salt would want to miss this”.

Live favourite Sonic Boom (“a full on space-rock epic of severe proportions”- ireallylovemusic) was also named as one of the tracks of 2003 by link2wales.co.uk and Radio Wales DJ Neil Crud.
