“A tiny pop empire” – NME
“Fascinating, to say the least” - CLASH
“Astonishing, sublime, beautiful: all those words still can’t sum up just how
much of a national treasure Tears In X-Ray Eyes are.” - atomicduster.com
May 9th sees the release of ‘Electricity’, the new single from London’s best-kept secret and purveyors of finely-twisted pop, Tears In X-Ray Eyes. This time the band have packed away their creaky keyboards and orchestral percussion, picked up their guitars and pared everything down. Then thrown in a trumpet.
It’s 2 minutes 56 seconds of pure adrenalized British pop (we’re talking Buzzcocks, not Busted) from the pen of singer/songwriter/producer Tim Closs, who, backed by an ever-shifting array of like-minded ne’er-do-wells, continues to create records which are easy to love but impossible to pigeon-hole.
‘Electricity’ is taken from the band’s 2nd album ‘The Way We Live Now’ (released October ‘04 on Test Tube Records). First single ‘Don’t Be So Beautiful’ was released in November ‘04, and was immediately playlisted on Xfm and all over regional radio.
The single is backed by ‘Promised Land’, another choice cut from the album, and an acoustic version of the band’s now deleted white-vinyl-only classic, ‘Don’t Crush The One You Love’
