Now it's not often that Shifty Disco goes down the solo singer/songwriter path as those of you who've been with us these past 7 years will surely know. But when something comes along that just slaps you in the face then resistance is futile.
Sitting here one day listening through to a (very) large pile of CDs, cynicism was starting to bite deep. When we popped the Monta album sampler into our CD player we expected yet another poorly-recorded, bedroom-bound angsty young male with rhyming cliches and heartfelt vocals. Oh yes, we've suffered hundreds of these such things over the years... And so we're extremely grateful for Monta, for he has saved us from our cynicism (for a little longer at least!). What we heard was some of the most sumptuous (yet stark - is that possible) and open music we have heard for a long long time.
And we're not alone....
German label Rewika has signed him up and is prepping itself for the release of the full album, "Where Circles Begin", next week - including a series of tourdates. Initially available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland the album will also be released across the rest of Europe, USA and Japan ealry in 2005.
