True Adventures Happen Inside Your Head is the weird and wistful musical endeavour of Mia Vigar. Somewhat carousel ride and somewhat David Lynch movie, it's difficult to pigeonhole the output of this idiosyncratic chanteuse. Cross Robert Wyatt with the chatter of an eight year old girl and you might be warm.

Mia got most of her musical education from reading Smash Hits, and her sounds are as fitting beside Tiffany as they would be beside Cornelius. Her music is characterised by a complete disregard of rules.

"La Jalousie was originally written and recorded in one day. I locked myself in the studio with a lot of coffee. I remember driving there with hot tears stinging my cheeks, and that I was upset by apathy and indifference, hence the line 'we are neither happy nor sad'. Funny to be so angry at middling. The song has been rerecorded since its earlier incarnation, but I kept the same shouting because I screamed until my throat was raw and my clothes were sticking to me. It was a private and important moment I'd never be able to recreate.

"I'm always really chuffed when people like La Jalousie because I believe it's one of the best tracks I've ever made. I achieved something personally with that song that became a bench mark. Often I write songs for lovers; this was something I wrote for me with no regard for traditions or expectations or even music. I suppose it is music, but that's incidental.

"I called it La Jalousie after the stiflingly mundane novel by Alain Robbe-Grillet. David Brewis of Field Music/ School of Language plays drums and percussion on it - we used a ribbon microphone set up in the corridor of a school. That was a strange day, but not as strange as the day I wrote the song in the first place."

Mia has played a Maida Vale session for Radio One, made Record of the Week with 'Lost Cause' on BBC Radio Norfolk earlier this year, and will be playing at Huw Stephens' club night at the Social on May 13th. She hopes to release the True Adventures Happen Inside Your Head album later this year.
