Seagull Strange
Santa Dog
Seagull Strange bring you the brooding "Love and Death" from their debut
album "Better Angels of our Nature" which is released in the shops this week
(available online here).
Here's what Artrocker had to say about the album just the other day:
"they have delivered a set of songs that are slow burning, reflective... like a cross between REM, Eels and Mercury Rev".

to grab a free download of non-album track "Sulla's Return".
The band wowed the crowds on the recent "shiftydisco10" tour and will be performing a special set in their hometown Virgin Megastore in Bristol this Saturday (3rd February) at 2pm.
And they would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to one of their favourite new bands, Santa Dog...
'The quite wonderful band Santa Dog first appeared on the Seagull Strange radar when we both got a mention on a certain forum; unfortunately we were getting a bit of a roasting at the time, but we'll keep that quiet, eh?. Then came the obligatory Myspace friend request, and the next thing you know, wherever we looked in Bristol, the words "Santa" and "Dog" were to be found; on posters, in gig listings, press, forums, festivals, press!
So, why should you be listening to Santa Dog? Apart from the fact that they produce shimmering, heat-haze slices of classy guitar pop, what is all important to win the Gulls as fans is that they go that extra mile on everything they seem to put their delicate, yet craftsmanlike hands to. With a rare attention to detail, their artwork, website, band photos, and music all compliment each other like a finely balanced, well made cocktail. And then you have Rowena's voice; a voice steeped in character, that still manages to whisper in your ear, and run its fingers through your hair, all the while slowly drawing you in before you find yourself completely hooked.
So, Santa Dog... the puppies privates they are.'

Santa Dog play sparkly, summer-soaked pop with chiming guitars and a sinister perimeter. They're here to kickstart the resurgence of the guitar wielding, girl-fronted band with a sassy attitude and strong emphasis on timeless, quality, tunesmithery. In the short time this four piece from Bristol, England have been together they have released three EPs to much critical praise, received airplay from BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! XFM, played live sessions for regional BBC radio, and collected a dizzying number of live shows under their belt ranging from festivals to indie clubs, industry seminars (including Manchester's In The City) to serenading the monkeys at Bristol Zoo. The band have also been getting attention from further afield, having been featured on NPR America's coveted All Songs Considered OpenMic, playlisted on college radio, gigged in Paris, invited to play US tour dates, and selected for an exciting new Japanese label compliation. Thanks to the global reach of the internet the band are featured on numerous podcasts, webzines and music blogs worldwide, with the cds selling as far and wide as the USA, Indonesia, Australia, Europe, Hong Kong and Canada.
Santa Dog have been described as 'a breath of fresh air' (indieworkshop), as 'playing the kind of classic guitar pop that exists in it's own universe, mercifully free of the shackles of hyperbole & trend' (norman records), as 'perfect pop' (lostmusic) and 'more addictive than opium' (whisperin & hollerin). Wears the trousers magazine think the band are 'on a serious upward trajectory' and tasty fanzine remark that 'If there is any justice in the world (and we all know there isn't) then 'Pop Coloured' would be flowing out of our radios every morning instead of Pussycat Dolls.' Sounds XP described the the Belle de Jour EP as "simply sublime", with stylus magazine declaring it 'a taut pop hit'.
The debut album 'Kittyhawk" is set for release in Japan in Spring 2007 on Quince records, and the debut single will be released in the UK in April on limited edition 7" vinyl through SoundsExperience.
