THERE'S GOLD IN THEM BADASSES...
Jason Morphew grew up in a fading resort town called Hot Springs in the strange state of Arkansas in the Southern United States. As a child he veered from the Merle Haggard records that had always leaned against the speakers of his life and the exotic, imported British records that he ordered from magazines. Somewhere along the way, Ian Curtis and Hank Williams winked at one another in Jason's heart and rhymed their influence in Jason's psyche. Southern people think he's weird; everyone else thinks he's crazy. What's for sure is his songs and his band are fucking great.
'Badass With a Heart of Gold' is Jason's debut single in the UK after signing a publishing deal with Sony following a low-key debut album, `Niagra Niagra' on Ba Da Bing! Records back home. His ability to twist traditional southern country music to fit his eclectic vision has already drawn enthusiastic plaudits but while he can steal equally from Abba and Sleepy LaBeef, he's still very much more Jimmie Rogers than Beck.
