mouse eat mouse on paper should be dull, pretentious, nonsense. Scots
poet and actor C.D.Shade rants and raves over crisp alt-pop
tunes with just a hint of scratching and sampling. Suzy Lemon
provides photos and 8mm films for projection at live performances.
John J White and John White ( they are NOT the same person,
nor are they related ), after years working away quietly on
the edges of the Glasgow undergound scene, craft layers of shimmering,
delicate, sound while Martin McManus keeps a grooving , contemporary,
4/4 pushing everything along. Add the ' reclaim our ain voice
and culture ' use of scots in an odd, affecting, west-of-scotland
rap and the fact that we have one song NMDA which lasts for
17 minutes and the potential for ' bag o shite' chants at gigs
are definitely there.
BUT, mouse eat mouse are sincere wee animals. the best way to
decide on the question of a) complete keech or b) unusual and
unique songs ( which are hard to define ) is to listen to the
tunes.
We do this cos we mean it.
Aye.
Love and kisses

History:
Mouse Eat Mouse are the product of several Glasgow bands spiltting
up, leaving various bored musicians and wierdos hanging about
with little to do of a Wednesday nicht. CD Shade and John have
known each other for years, but only recently did they decide
that spoken word poetry in scots, backed by booting pop tunes,
might be a fun thing to do. As someone once said, the guitar's
a good thing, Johnny, but you'll never make a living with it.
John J met the other John by chance ( and they're deffo NOT related
) and thought he'd like to get involved with their commercial-death
enterprise. Through John J, funky drummer Martin was dragged
on board. He and his tiny kit are now the backbone of the band.
Suzy Lemon is a semi-recluse living in deepest Highland Scotland.
She provides images for The Meece to play to as a backdrop.
She's currently working on several super8 films. A perfectionist,
she may have them ready for July 2002. She's happiest pottering
around her organic garden.
Mouse Eat Mouse aren't really interested in the standard gig thing.
So far they've played an acoustic set to a techno audience and
supported henry Rollins in glasgow. 2002 will see them trying
to play in even stranger places and recording some new songs.
Oh yeah, and Robert Burns is a great poet. No shortbread here
please.
