CODY
SIMPLE
Release Date: 6th Oct, 1997Cat No: DISCO9709
Format: CDS
Dissatisfied with dad rock and kiddie punk, Cody restarted a stalling nineties with a slap of beauty across the face of the void. Swathes and swirls of distressed guitar and surging synth, depth-charge bass, precision beats and a shot of quirky funk. Spraying the garage with glitter. Cody's electric goosebump hi-fi DIY demonstrates itself amply on their debut single "Simple", a massive 8 1/2 minutes of pop hypnosis in hyperdrone overdrive - a bittersweet bubblegum epic, guaranteed irony-free. Race you to the end. "Absentminded" (hardly a b-side) flirts with conventional pure pop but wraps it in a mesh of tangled bass and nauseous guitar, leaving it tousled and breathless.
Cody rearrange the shelves of heartfelt pop into strange and wonderful new arrangements. Kiss them full on the lips.
Cody have since released a handful of records on Shinkansen (formerly Sarah) Records.
