THEY'RE NOT A REAL ORCHESTRA AND THOSE AREN'T REAL LIONS…

Of all the great mysteries in the world, the one you're least interested in knowing the answer to is, 'Who are the Burt Lump Orchestra?' So we won't bother telling you. They're just two blokes who went into a studio together armed only with a fistful of pop song-related ideas and a sample of some chickens. Listen carefully and you can almost hear it.

'Feed Me To The Lions' is the Burt Lump Orchestra's debut single. It was the first song they ever wrote. We like to think it's a bit what Donovan might have sounded like if he'd been in some lo-fi krautrock band. The b-side, 'Bad Machine', is more like Stereolab if they were from the Ukraine. Which they aren't. And nor are the Burt Lump Orchestra, although of course you don't want to know that.

Some other stuff you aren't particularly bothered about knowing about the Burt Lump Orchestra: they're both called Nick in real life. Burt Lump is the real life name of one of the Nick's baby boy. They're from Oxford - the dangerous east side, not the comfy middly bit. All that stuff about Burt Lump being Nick's baby's name might be a lie because we thought the name was a bit stupid so they wanted to make it look like there was an important reason for it. The chickens were free-range.

What you do need to know about the Burt Lump Orchestra is that they've made one of the most unassumingly lovely pop songs of the year so far. And they did it all for you. So say thank you.

That's okay, it was their pleasure.
